Meng Chan spends his days snapping creatures in Eastbrookend Park and is staging his second free public exhibition.
Meng’s pictures have won top prizes in the Wildlife Trust’s annual amateur photography competition.
But the 45-year-old graphic designer from Chadwell Heath really wants others to be “out there” seeing wildlife close up.
“I want people to go out and explore nature,” he said.
“We are living in the age of artificial intelligence. You can create incredible images by just entering a few keywords into your device.
“But nothing feels more magical than experiencing it in real life.”
The father-of-two, originally from Hong Kong, uses different lenses on his Nikon camera — a micro when face-to-face with a scary spider, or wide angle for cute bunnies at play or ducks feeding their young.
“I sit and just wait and don’t need a telephoto, “Meng adds. “I go to the park a lot and know where to look.”
His first show in November had so many people asking to see more of his wildlife that he said the park rangers invited him back for his latest exhibition, which opened on Saturday and finishes tomorrow from 10am to 3pm.
