Hainault sword murderer
Marcus Monzo (Image: Met Police) Marcus Arduini Monzo, 37, of Satanita Close in Canning Town, murdered schoolboy Daniel Anjorin during a 20-minute rampage.
He fatally slashed Daniel with a samurai sword minutes after the 14-year-old left his home in Hainault on April 30 last year.
Daniel’s dad Dr Ebenezer Anjorin condemned Monzo’s “wicked” actions as he described losing his son as his “worst nightmare”.
Speaking publicly about it for the first time, Dr Anjorin said in a statement: “On April 30 2024 at approximately 7am, Daniel left for school. At approximately 7.15am I was informed by my eldest son that Daniel had been stabbed on the road near my house. I ran outside the house and just across the road I saw a hunched-up body by the side of the road.
“I did not realise that it was Daniel at first but, as I got closer, I recognised the school sports clothes and saw his face.
“He was lying in a pool of blood and had a deep cut to his face running from the side of his mouth to the back of his neck. He was motionless. I knew at once that he was dead, but I reached down, called his name and held his head.”
Monzo had killed and skinned his pet cat Wizard before running amok in Hainault.
He drove his van into Donato Iwule who ran away screaming as Monzo got out of the vehicle and came at him with a sword.
Monzo then attacked Daniel from behind, causing unsurvivable neck injuries.
When Pc Yasmin Mechem-Whitfield tried to detain Monzo, he repeatedly struck her with “savage” blows, causing severe injuries.
He erupted into the home of Henry De Los Rios Polania and Sindy Arias who had been asleep with their young child nearby.
Inspector Moloy Campbell cornered Monzo in a car park and ran in with his baton raised only to be slashed on the hand.
Officers eventually detained the delivery driver who had become psychotic from taking cannabis.
Afterwards, Monzo, who had viewed far right and misogynistic content on social media, likened events to the Hollywood film The Hunger Games and claimed to have an alternative persona of a “professional assassin”.
Monzo was found guilty of murder and was jailed for life with a minimum term of 40 years.
Romford teen killed pensioner with firework
Nathan Otitodilchukwu (Image: Met Police) Nathan Otitodilchukwu, 18, previously of Crow Lane in Romford, was jailed for six years for the manslaughter of 76-year-old Robert Price.
Mr Price was pronounced dead shortly before 6pm on July 27 at his home in Oval Road North, Dagenham.
A 16-year-old, who cannot be identified due to his age, also admitted manslaughter and was sentenced to two years and eight months in custody.
The pair threatened to torch the pensioner before punching a hole in his window and pushing a firework into his home.
Prosecutor Catherine Farrelly KC had told how Mr Price’s terraced home in Dagenham, east London, caught fire in July 2024, with black smoke filling the house before he could be saved.
“Robert Price was killed in a fire which was started at his home address by the two defendants who smashed a window at his property and threw a firework inside,” she told the court.
John Shoesmith, who had been friends with Mr Price for 10 years, said he would never leave his house because “kids would disturb him,” Ms Farrelly said.
Mr Shoesmith described him as socially awkward and said his lack of social skills and poor hearing meant some people found him “hard to get along with”.
The harassment included acts of criminal damage to his house, the court heard.
CCTV footage from the day of the fire showed that at around 5.30pm the pair walked towards Mr Price’s house with the 16-year-old holding what was believed to be a firework, Ms Farrelly said.
Doorbell footage showed Mr Price open the door slightly and say something, before the 16-year-old ran away shouting “he saw me fam” shortly before the youths returned and carried out the attack.
“A loud bang can be heard, followed by high-pitched laughing as the group run away,” the prosecutor said.
A few minutes later, smoke could be seen coming out of the window, before flames and black smoke engulfed the room, the court heard.
A neighbour who had seen the flames knocked on the door and briefly spoke to Mr Price, but his “responses became less clear”, the court was told.
The neighbour tried to get into the house to rescue Mr Price, but the door was locked, Ms Farrelly said.
Firefighters were later able to get inside and put out the fire, but Mr Price could not be saved.
