The fire service was called to High Street North at around 4pm yesterday (December 13).
Firefighters arrived with eight fire engines at the incident in a terraced property with shops below flats.
Part of the flat on the third floor of the building was on fire.
Crews from Plaistow, Stratford and Ilford fire stations brought the fire under control around two hours later.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
Traffic in the area was impacted as High Street North and Tennyson Avenue were closed for the emergency services.
