The pedestrian, in his 70s, has been critically injured after being hit by a car on East Ferry Road, near Crossharbour DLR station, yesterday (October 27) just before 2.20pm.
He currently remains in hospital in a life-threatening condition.
Photographs seen by this paper show a traffic light knocked down with a damaged car next to it.
According to the Metropolitan Police, the crash involved three vehicles and one pedestrian.
The driver of one of the vehicles involved – a man in his 40s – was also injured, but his condition was found to be non-life threatening and non-life changing.
He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and has been taken into custody, where he remains.
A third person was also treated by the London Ambulance Service, however they were discharged at the scene.
A Met Police spokesperson said: “At 14:18hrs on Monday, 27 October, officers attended East Ferry Road, Tower Hamlets, alongside the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade, following reports of a collision involving three vehicles and one pedestrian.
“The pedestrian, aged in his 60s, was critically injured. He was taken to hospital, where he remains in life-threatening condition.
“The driver of one of the vehicles involved – a man in his 40s – also sustained injuries. He was taken to hospital, where his injuries were assessed as non-life-threatening and non-life-changing.
“He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and has been taken into custody, where he remains.”
