Police were called to Dunstans Road at around 8.16pm on Saturday (May 3) after receiving reports of a burglary.
Officers pursued a vehicle linked to the incident, which later crashed into another car.
The driver of the suspect vehicle was arrested and taken to hospital.
His injuries are still being assessed.
No one else was injured in the crash.
A 58-year-old man is being treated for a head injury that is not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
It is currently unclear how he sustained these injuries during the incident.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Following a report at 20:16hrs on Saturday, 3 May of a burglary in SE22, officers pursued a vehicle linked to the incident, which was then involved in a collision with another car.
“The driver of the suspect car was arrested and taken to hospital.
“His injuries are still being assessed.
“No-one else was injured in the collision.
“Police cordons remain in place while enquiries are ongoing into the alleged assault and burglary in Dunstans Road.
“A 58-year-old man is being treated for a non-life-threatening / life-changing head injury following the incident.”
