Drapers’ Pyrgo Priory School, in Settle Road, was praised following a visit from inspectors in June.
The primary school was previously graded as ‘requires improvement’ after an inspection in 2023 – but Ofsted welcomed changes to the curriculum, new systems for SEND pupils and a focus on personal development by leaders at its latest inspection.
A report published on July 15 revealed that pupils are supported to be “kind, keen and considerate” at Drapers’ Pyrgo.

Inspectors found that pupils follow a “carefully considered curriculum”, which allows them to produce work of a “high quality”, following “substantial changes” made by the school to what pupils study.
However, inspectors noted that published exam results “do not reflect the achievements of current pupils” due to the changes recently being introduced.
Amongst the school’s improvements are new systems to identify pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), according to Ofsted.
The report said: “The school ensures appropriate information and strategies are shared with staff.
“Staff regularly discuss how to best support pupils with SEND.
“This helps pupils, where possible, to access the same ambitious curriculum as their peers.”
Alongside this, leaders have given “careful thought” to the personal development of pupils, including online safety, trips to museums and art galleries, and an “empathy week”, which Ofsted says demonstrates the school’s “inclusive atmosphere”.
Trudy Spillane, executive principal at Drapers’ Pyrgo, said the findings are a “true reflection of the dedication and passion of the staff” at the school.

She told the Recorder: “It’s a joy to see our pupils speak so proudly about their school and genuinely enjoy being here.
“We’re excited to continue this journey of growth, building on the strong foundations already in place.”
Darren Luckhurst, chief executive of Drapers’ Multi-Academy Trust, added: “This latest Ofsted report is a powerful endorsement of the remarkable progress the school
has made.
“It reflects the improvements implemented under the exceptional leadership of
Trudy Spillane and her dedicated team.”
