The quirkily titled ‘Don’t Tell Dad’ is named after a phrase that owner and restaurateur Daniel Land would share with his late sister Lesley.
Currently testing out a soft opening, the combined bakery and restaurant officially throws open its doors in Lonsdale Road, Queen’s Park on January 17.
By day, Don’t Tell Dad will be under the guidance of head baker Keren Sternberg, (formerly of Portobello Road’s Layla) serving coffee from London roastery 15Grams, sandwiches, bread, and sweet and savoury pastries.
Expect the likes of hazelnut brown butter croissants, honey-poached quince and pistachio Danishes, and artichoke, sage and Lancashire cheese Pain Suisse.
By night the restaurant will be overseen by head chef Luke Frankie, whose CV includes Noble Rot, Forza Wine, and Spring.
He will be serving up Anglo-French fare such as crab tart with crab oil mayonnaise an watercress; roast pumpkin with brown butter, hazelnut and crispy sage; and spiced mallard with celeriac and Swiss chard.
First look images reveal a long open kitchen with counter stools, booths, low lighting, and marble-topped tables.
Land previously founded Italian pasta and sandwich quick food chain Coco di Mama with his best friend Jeremy Sanders. It started in Fleet Street in 2011 and now has outlets around the UK, including 21 in London.
Don’t Tell Dad will take up residence at 10-14 Lonsdale Road NW6, the semi-pedestrian road in Queen’s Park where you can find Aussie brunch spot Milk Beach, Pizza Pilgrims, Levantine restaurant Carmel, and craft beer brewery and bar Wolf Pack.
