The BBC’s DIY SOS team, led by Nick Knowles, will be in Grove Park from April 2 to April 10, 2025, undertaking a full-scale renovation for the Scott family.
However, with the build fast approaching, the team urgently still needs window and door suppliers, bespoke joiners, telehandler operators, and plasterers to help complete the project.
The Scott family’s story is one of immense hardship. In February 2023, their mum, Zoe, tragically passed away following an accident at home, leaving behind five children—Somer, 30, Samuel, 25, Shay, 19, Sadie, 13, and Seth, 9.
The eldest, Somer, is studying in Liverpool to become a doctor, while Samuel has taken on full-time caring responsibilities, particularly for Seth, who is registered blind, severely autistic, and suffers from renal failure.
Their home is in desperate need of renovation, with cramped spaces, faulty electrics, and an unsafe layout that makes caring for Seth even more challenging.
The DIY SOS team and volunteer tradespeople are stepping in to make the house safe, accessible, and fit for the family’s needs—but they need urgent support to get it done.
A post from the show’s official Facebook page reads: “We need support from tradespeople, volunteers, and suppliers by donating skills and materials. Your generosity will help transform the lives of a local family by completely renovating their current space into a usable and fit-for-purpose home.
“We offer a unique on-site experience, full catering, and the joy of volunteering with your community. Come and join Nick and the team on-site for as many days as you can possibly help with.”
Anyone who can assist is urged to contact diysosgrovepark@southshore.uk as soon as possible with their trade, availability, and contact details.
