Metropolitan Police, London Fire Brigade, and the Joint Response Unit (Met and LAS) were pictured at the scene of an incident in Devons Road on January 19.
Today (January 21), a spokesperson from the Met confirmed that at around 3.15pm on January 18, officers were called to reports of a theft.
Police attended and attempted to speak to a suspect, a 32-year-old man.
The spokesperson said PAVA spray was stolen from one of the officers.
A man then allegedly assaulted the officers and climbed onto the roof of Southcott House.
He was safely brought down and taken into police custody before being taken to hospital for a mental health assessment.
A Met Police spokesperson said: “On Sunday, 18 January, police were called at 15:12hrs to Devons Road, E3, following reports of a theft.
“Met officers attended the scene and attempted to speak with a suspect before he stole one officer’s PAVA spray, assaulted the officers, and climbed onto a roof.
“Officers were assisted by other emergency services, and the man was safely brought down.
“The 32‑year‑old was taken into police custody, before he was taken to hospital for a mental health assessment.
“Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.”
