Police were called to an assault in Hedgemans Road around 8.45am today (September 1).
Officers arrived and found a suspect in a building on nearby Tilney Road.
Police say that specialist officers were called after the suspect barricaded himself into the property.
Pictures show officers wearing riot gear and holding shields walking down Tilney Road.
A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm and public order offences. He remains in custody.
A dog was seized at the address and a spokesperson for London Ambulance Service confirmed it assessed three children at the scene and were later stood down.
Cordons were put in place during the incident but have since been lifted.
A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 08:44 on Monday, 1 September to Hedgemans Road, Dagenham to reports of an assault.
“Officers attended and located a suspect at a property nearby on Tilney Road.
“The suspect barricaded himself inside the property and cordons were put in place to ensure the safety of members of the public as officers attempted to engage with the man.
“Specialist officers attended and a man, aged 38, was arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm and public order offences. He remains in custody.
“A dog was also seized from the address.
“The cordon has now been removed and enquiries are ongoing.”
