Motor Fuel Group has had planning permission approved for the “creation of an electric vehicle (EV) charging zone comprising the installation of 3 EV charging points and 6 EV vehicle bays”.
The plans also include “three jet wash bays and an air/water and vacuum combi unit and associated works”.
These will be built in the car park of Morrisons in Wood Lane.
The application was submitted on November 15 last year and was approved by Barking and Dagenham Council on March 11.
In a document submitted by CarneySweeney, the agent in this application, it details that no changes will be made to the supermarket building but the current car wash at the east of the site will be “demolished”.
It will be replaced by a “substation enclosure, meter cabinet, LV enclosure and plant room”.
The EV charging zone will be located to the north east of the site and the proposed jet wash bays and air/water and vacuum unit and bay will be located to the south of the EV charging zone.
The document confirms that a total of 23 car parking spaces will be lost but describes this as bringing “the parking use up to date” with EV charging points.
In another document, CarneySweeney says: “It is essential that there is a comprehensive and competitive EV charging network in place.”
It also confirmed that Motor Fuel Group is planning an extensive supply of EV charging facilities at existing Morrisons sites across the UK.
The council has granted full planning permission and has said that development must begin within three years from now.
