Figures from the Department for Transport showing travel times on A-roads around the country have revealed which roads in the county cause the longest delays for drivers.
Of the 11 A-roads included in the study in Croydon, 10 had travel times that were significantly longer than average in the year ending December 2024.
The slowest road to drive on was named the A213 in Croydon, unsurprising to any driver who regularly navigates Selhurst Road and Queens Road during rush hour.
The congestion spot takes road users an average of 176.7 seconds per mile to navigate.
This has increased by 64 seconds since 2023, when the average was 112.5 seconds per mile.
The A235 between Purley and Thornton Heath was the second slowest road, with the average time being 167.6 seconds per mile, two seconds longer than the average in 2023.
Taking the third spot was the A212 Road, which links Croydon with Lewisham.
The road delayed drivers by 124.8 seconds per mile last year, 22 seconds longer than the year before at 102.3 seconds.
The average delay time in the Greater London Authority is 59.6 seconds.
Only one road in Croydon was below that average time – the A22 that runs through Purley and Kenley.
The delay time, however, was 59.1 seconds, just half a second less than the average time.
Below are all the A Roads in Croydon and their delay times.
A212 – 176.7 seconds per mile
A235 – 167.6 seconds per mile
A222 – 124.8 seconds per mile
A212 – 120.8 seconds per mile

The government statistics are based on weighted speed observations from a sample of vehicles grouped by associated traffic flows. They are representative of traffic volumes on the roads in different locations and at different times of day.
Travel times in the calculations include the complete 24-hourly period, including overnight, weekends and bank holidays.
