Croydon’s town centre taskforce is working to clear identified hotspots and respond rapidly to residents’ concerns.
Recent efforts have been focused on Factory Lane car park, known as Pitlake, which was deemed unsafe due to build-up of waste and antisocial activities.
The council, joined by police and other agencies, engaged with those involved to prevent future disturbances.
A similar clean-up was conducted in the passageway between Lamberts Place and Bridge Place under Windmill Bridge, following public complaints about mess and unpleasantness.
Plans are now in place to install new lighting in this area.
Both sites will be regularly monitored by the taskforce to maintain cleanliness and safety.
The taskforce is a collaborative effort involving the council, police, businesses, and support teams.
Executive Mayor of Croydon, Jason Perry, said: “Croydon’s town centre taskforce is working on delivering faster and more coordinated responses to local issues.
“It is always concerning to hear about the distress and disruption caused by antisocial behaviour, which can blight local communities.
“Our aim is to keep our borough cleaner, safer and healthier for everyone, and ensure those involved in antisocial behaviour are offered ongoing support to prevent issues from reoccurring.”
The inclusion of housing and drug and alcohol treatment outreach services in the taskforce ensures a comprehensive approach to dealing with antisocial behaviour.
The efforts of the taskforce have been pivotal in keeping Croydon free from the blight of fly-tipping and antisocial behaviour.
The results are a cleaner, safer, and healthier borough for residents and visitors, with a commitment to continue monitoring and acting swiftly to maintain this standard.
