Keith Edun, 48, formerly of Strathmore Road in Croydon, was initially given a 13 years and six month prison sentence with an additional eight years on extended licence.
But the prison sentence was increased to 16 years and two months, with the same extended licence period, after it was referred to the Court of Appeal under the Unduly Lenient Sentence Scheme.
Previous investigations into Edun had indicated he had a sexual interest in children and babies but had no resulted in any charged being brought against him.
He was eventually brought to justice after an investigation into sexual abuse and the exploitation of children in 2021.
After being informed that indecent images of children were being shared on the social media app, the account sharing them was tracked to Edun’s address.
A separate investigation by another force led to the conviction of a male for the rape of a baby which occurred in March 2020, which was also linked to Edun’s Kik account.
Police discovered Edun encouraged the male to commit the rape, and he was charged and remanded into custody in October 2023.
The Attorney General, arguing that Edun’s sentence was unduly lenient, pointed out that the baby was just two weeks old when it was raped.
Appeal judges agreed and increased his sentence.
Solicitor General Lucy Rigby KC MP said: “Keith Edun is a dangerous sexual predator who poses a serious risk to children.
“His crimes were deeply disturbing, and I would like to thank the police for their thorough investigation of this matter.
“The court has rightly decided to increase Edun’s sentence which I hope sends a strong message that this government will take robust action to keep dangerous sex offenders off our streets.”
