Security site Reolink released a list of the top 10 “most dangerous” boroughs to be “extra cautious” in.
They analyse crime rates and recent headline-making incidents to highlight areas where residents and visitors should remain vigilant.
Croydon ranked in sixth and was the two of the 12 south London boroughs to be named, along with Southwark.
It is important to note that while Croydon was named, it is also one of the largest and most populated boroughs in south London, so comparing its crime figures directly with neighbouring, smaller boroughs like Sutton and Merton may not provide a fully balanced picture.
So far in 2025, Croydon has had 71 crimes per 1,000 people, which is a bit lower than the London average of 76 per 1,000.
But some types of crime are still a big problem.
In December 2024, Croydon had the highest number of drug-related crimes in London, with 284 cases reported.
The most common crimes in Croydon are violence and sexual offences, with 12,374 reported so far this year, which is slightly more than last year.
On the other hand, bike thefts have gone down a little, with 196 cases so far in 2025.
These numbers show that while Croydon has some serious crime issues, overall crime isn’t higher than the London average.
In July, the most reported crime was violence against an individual, with 1,102 reports made to the Metropolitan Police.
Croydon has been named many things this year.
In June, it was named as the unhappiest place to live.
New Addington was named one of the country’s most “depressing” places to live.
Interestingly, Croydon was named as one of London’s most family friendly boroughs, as well as one of the top 50 best places to live in England by The Times.
Hackney in north London ranked in at number one on Reolink’s list.
