On June 23, Croydon Council’s antisocial behaviour enforcement team obtained a premises closure order against a council tenant in Whitehorse Road, Thornton Heath.
This followed claims of serious crime and nuisance behaviour including loud shouting, music, intimidation, vandalism, and drug dealings.
The closure order was granted by Croydon Magistrates Court after hearing the alleged details of the criminal activities.
Other claims included harassment, verbal abuse, aggressive behaviour, and causing distress to neighbours.
The resident is now excluded from their property for three months while authorities seek to evict the tenant.
The alleged criminal activities have also been reported to the police.
The council has said it will take action on reports, and offers support to those willing to turn their lives around.
Executive Mayor of Croydon, Jason Perry, said: “We take a zero-tolerance approach to tenants causing misery to their neighbours and will take decisive action against perpetrators.
“Nobody should have to suffer from disturbances in their neighbourhoods.
“We ask Council tenants to report any concerns and we will work with our partners to address the issues.”
This formed part of Croydon’s partnership approach with the Met Police and other partners to protect residents from antisocial behaviour and criminal activity in their neighbourhoods.
The council works with organisations including Change Grow Live, and SLAM to offer support to those who engage and want to change their lives.
This aligns with the Executive Mayor’s Business Plan, which is focused on improving housing quality and making Croydon a place residents are proud to call home.
More information on how to report antisocial behaviour is available on the council website.
