This paper has seen a letter sent to “residents local to Crowlands Heath Golf Course” on October 8 by H4Life Ltd director Marc Pennick.
It confirms that H4Life Ltd has agreed to purchase the golf course, which straddles the border of Havering and Barking and Dagenham, to bring “much needed” homes, infrastructure and sports facilities.
The letter claimed the golf club has “struggled financially” over the years.

The number of people playing golf during the week, according to H4Life Ltd, averages 16 rounds per day and on the weekend averages 23 rounds per day.
Mr Pennick claims in the letter that the numbers “are not sustainable”.

A H4Life spokesperson told this paper: “The 100 per cent affordable housing redevelopment of Crowlands Heath Golf Course will provide over 1,100 much-needed low rise homes.
“The existing site is a nine-hole, semi-private golf course with a driving range.

“It is located on poor-performing green belt land and provides an excellent location for affordable housing.
“Assael Architecture have designed a landscape-led masterplan, involving a pedestrian green route across the entire site, enhancing the biodiversity of the area with consciously designed green areas.”
The homes will be a range of two, three and four bedrooms and includes 60pc social housing and 40pc key worker housing.
Multiple play areas, football pitches, an indoor sports facility, a café/bar community centre, retail convenience store, and new bus routes and services have also been proposed
The spokesperson added: “We are currently consulting with the local community on our emerging plans for the site.
“Our team continue to welcome feedback ahead of submitting a planning application, which is targeted for 2026.”
The letter invites residents to join H4Life at its open days so they can see the proposals and provide feedback.
Mr Pennick told this paper: “H4Life believes this would be one of the largest single offerings of new build social and key worker housing being delivered in London with much needed infrastructure for the area.
“We hope the local community get behind the proposals when we start our engagements.”
