With August here and the summer holidays in full swing, families everywhere are taking a long drive to a beach far outside of London.
But Croydon residents and visitors won’t need to leave the town for a taste of the seaside, as the beach has come to them.
Popular beach rooftop experience Costa del Croydon reopened earlier this month for a second year after an incredibly popular run last summer.
Located on the rooftop of Centrale Shopping Centre, the sandy pop-up is back with even more on offer, and it’s already drawing in crowds.
There is a huge splash zone for kids to cool off in, complete with water jets and spray tunnels, which offers a welcome break from as another heatwave is set to hit London this month.

For those keen to stay dry, there is a massive sandpit to dig through, build castles in, or just lounge with a bucket and spade.

Bright hammocks are scattered around for anyone wanting to take a lazy swing in the sun.
As before, entry is free, but visitors are encouraged to book a slot in advance to guarantee a space.
This year also sees some new attractions, including a fire-blast arcade-style game.

There is also a giant chessboard for anyone who fancies themselves a seaside grandmaster, and a hook-a-duck stall.

Food stands are once again selling classic seaside treats, from doughnuts to candyfloss.
While the kids are entertained, adults can head over to The Thirst Trap bar, which returns with cocktails, wine, and chilled summer lagers.

The beach is open every day with two daily sessions, from 11.30am to 3pm and again from 3.30pm to 7pm, running all August 28.
Dominque Stagg, the mastermind behind Costa Del Croydon, said: “There a lot of families in Croydon who don’t have access to outdoor spaces.
“A lot of them live in flats and some young people have never seen a beach before, so I wanted to create something different that hasn’t been done before in Croydon.”
“Part of my role is to bring events and enlightenment into Croydon on behalf of the shopping centres, so I always look for new exciting things that are a little bit different.
“It’s also to try and make people want to visit Croydon.”
