JD Wetherspoon will open its latest venue, Coombe Lodge, in Croydon on Wednesday, December 17, paying tribute to the history of the local area and bringing new life to a former restaurant site.
With areas of Croydon retaining much of its rural character and old grand houses, the pub’s name refers to Coombe Lodge, a mid-18th-century house originally part of the Coombe Estate.
The pub features two ground-floor bars, and will offer a selection of real ales, traditional ciders, craft and world beers, including bottled and draught options from local and regional brewers.
Customers will also be able to enjoy historical photos, displays and artwork, showcasing the heritage of Croydon, including notable figures, locations and moments from the area’s past.
Connor Joyce, pub manager, said: “Myself and my team are looking forward to welcoming customers into Coombe Lodge and we are confident that the pub will be a great addition to the local social scene.”

Fully wheelchair accessible, the site is equipped with an adapted toilet for people with disabilities and also includes a large front beer garden.
Coombe Lodge will host family dining, with children, accompanied by an adult, welcome in the pub up throughout the week until 11pm.
Part of JD Wetherspoon’s wider programme of investment and expansion across the UK, the £1million project has created 80 jobs and the opening comes as the company continues to invest in new sites and refurbishments throughout London and the South East.
