Northern line trains will start serving the station again on December 20, according to a Transport for London (TfL) committee report.
The station has been shut since June 7 for work to replace its 1960s entrance with a new building and ticket hall to provide step-free access.
TfL said the station, in its current state, was projected to reach passenger capacity by 2026.
The upgrade was confirmed after TfL secured £43.1 million from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund for work at both Colindale and Leyton stations.
During the closure of Colindale station, commuters relying on the Edgware branch of the Northern line complained about being forced to stand on the upper deck of crammed replacement buses.
In September, there were also fears among local people that the scheduled reopening in December would be pushed back.
Campaign group ‘Colindale Station – Yes to Redevelopment, No to Closure’ claimed that “the site works are obviously behind schedule”.
But TfL will have met its target if the station reopens as planned on December 20.
This would mean that the station will return to service for less than a week before it shuts for Christmas Day along with the rest of the Tube network.
Trains would then start running again on Boxing Day.
Once open, passengers will use a temporary pedestrian passageway that will allow customers to access the platforms through the existing ticket hall and new staircases.
The new station entrance is then expected to open in autumn 2025.
Speaking about the upgrade last December, Barnet Council leader Cllr Barry Rawlings said: “The Colindale tube station redevelopment scheme is precisely the kind of project Levelling Up should support, to boost house building and spread opportunity for so many living in one of the capital’s most deprived areas. Better transport links means better jobs and better pay.”
Other north London stations that are set to benefit from step-free access include West Hampstead, Alperton, Arnos Grove and Eastcote.
TfL is also currently carrying out a feasibility study to look at how step-free access could also be provided at East Finchley, Neasden and Northwood stations.
