The chain confirmed its store in White Horse Lane will shut next Friday (January 23).
The closure comes as part of the company’s announcement to divest 22 of its directly managed stores nationwide, with 20 planned for sale to third-party retailers and another two to other franchisees.
In a statement Southern Co-Op said these plans were to “strengthen” the business for the long term.
But the plans changed after third-party buyers withdrew from the purchase of five sites due to external factors.
One of the affected locations was the Chislehurst store.
Despite efforts to find an alternative buyer, none has been secured for the site.
Southern Co-op said staff affected by the closure have been informed.
The retailer said it will work with employees to look for alternative roles within its other stores or elsewhere in the business.
However it added that staff would be made redundant where other vacancies are not possible.
Southern Co-op added that it will support all affected staff throughout the process.
Five stores have already been divested with a further seven stores due to close by the end of Febuary 2026.
In a statement Southern Co-Op said: “Despite extensive efforts, we have not been able to secure an alternative buyer for this location.
“Affected colleagues have been informed, and we will work closely with them to explore opportunities within our stores or elsewhere within Southern Co‑op.
“Where redeployment is not possible, roles will regrettably be at risk of redundancy but we are committed to supporting all impacted colleagues throughout this process.”
