Co-op Funeralcare Thornton Heath, on Bensham Lane, has started the initiative to encourage people to reach out for support.
The group, run by funeral arranger Josephine Williamson, provides a vital support network for those navigating grief, offering a safe and informal space for people to share their experiences.
The next meeting is set for April 16.

The latest session welcomed guest speaker Maria Nepilopete from Cruse Bereavement Support, who provided information and literature to help those in attendance.
With tea, coffee, and biscuits provided in a relaxed environment, the group is designed to be a welcoming and pressure-free space where attendees can talk as much or as little as they feel comfortable.
The initiative has received overwhelmingly positive feedback, with many participants finding solace in connecting with others who understand their journey.
Due to growing interest, there are plans to introduce a second group, allowing more people to access the support they need while maintaining the intimate nature of the sessions.
Following the National Day of Reflection on March 9, Josephine is especially aware of how difficult anniversaries and reminders can be for those grieving.
One attendee, Euline, shared her experience: “I found it very encouraging and felt enlightened to talk about where I’m at since mum’s death, but more so being able to also meet and listen to the other participants.
“For the first time I’ve been able to open up and speak about where I’m presently at since the funeral.
“The meetings help me put things into perspective and are helping me gradually work towards inner peace.”
Reflecting on the impact the group has had on the community, Josephine said: “Grief can be incredibly isolating, but spaces like our bereavement group remind people that they don’t have to go through it alone.
“It’s heartwarming to see attendees grow in confidence and comfort as they share their experiences and support each other.
“We’re committed to continuing this initiative and hope it inspires more groups to start across our other homes.”
