Chris Tawiah, who won the British Basketball League championship with Leicester Riders, will visit Roding Primary School in Roding Lane North on February 2, 2026, as part of a Sports For Champions UK workshop.
The event aims to raise £1,000 to support both the school and aspiring athletes across the country.
Sports For Champions events help raise funds for schools and athletes, with 60 per cent of donations supporting educational resources and 40 per cent going towards athlete development.
Mr Tawiah, who began playing basketball at 16 and earned a scholarship in the United States, won the league championship and playoffs with the Leicester Riders and the BBL Cup with the London Lions.
He has also competed in the FIBA Europe Cup and the Basketball Champions League.
He said: “In my free time I like to work on my youth empowerment business because there are so many people that could have done what I’ve done, and I want to show people that their dreams can be bigger than them.
“The mission is to inspire a billion young people to chase their dreams and make the most of every moment they’re given.”
During the school workshop, he will lead a fitness circuit, deliver an inspirational talk, display his medals, and take part in a question-and-answer session with pupils.
Funds raised will help Roding Primary School purchase new equipment and expand opportunities for students.
Parents and the community are being encouraged to donate and support the event.
A spokesman for Sports For Champions UK said: “We’re asking all parents to help make it a memorable event for the pupils with the help of Chris Tawiah, to raise funds for key resources for Roding Primary School.
“If you are a local business or a friend of the school and would like to contribute to help us get to our target, then please do make a donation and share our project as far as you can.
“Most world-class athletes train a rigorous 35-hour week and struggle to find reliable work that fits their schedule.
“This is how the funds we raise enable athletes and your school/club to realize their potential.”
