The group, aged eight to 12, participated in Epping Forest District Council’s summer activity programme, where they spent a day-and-a-half learning their lines before the final performance.
They were guided by professional choreographer Elysia Tebb and her son, Kelsey, as they recreated scenes from the movie and musical.
The performance was held at North Weald Village Hall (Image: Epping Forest District Council) Their costumes transformed them into characters from the Shrek universe.
Councillor Louise Mead, chairman of Epping Forest District Council, and councillor Alan Lion, vice-chairman of Epping Forest District Council, were among the audience at North Weald Village Hall.
The children had just two days of rehearsals (Image: Epping Forest District Council) Councillor Mead said: “These children worked together as a team, remained focused, and performed the most wonderful show.
“I have to say how impressive it was.
“They earned every smile and every clap of the audience.
“They are absolute stars.
“I know how hard it is, even as an experienced entertainer, to step on stage even with weeks or months of rehearsals, and they did it with just two days’ rehearsal and shined throughout, every single child.”
Following the performance, the councillors handed out certificates of achievement to the children.
