HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is urging parents to renew their Child Benefit claims by August 31 so that payments continue into the new academic year.
Claims can be extended easily through the HMRC app or online.
The renewal of these claims prevents the automatic cessation of payments.
Child Benefit provides £26.05 per week, amounting to £1,354.60 annually, for the eldest or only child and £17.25 per week, equivalent to £897 annually, for each additional child.
HMRC has already contacted 1.5 million eligible parents to remind them of the need to extend their claims.
Myrtle Lloyd, HMRC’s chief customer officer, emphasised the importance of not missing out on this benefit.
“Teenagers can be expensive, and Child Benefit is an important source of income for your household,” she said.
“As soon as you know what your teen is doing in September, don’t miss out.
“You can extend your claim in minutes through the HMRC app or online to ensure your payments continue.”
Child Benefit can extend up to the age of 19 for children undertaking full-time non-advanced education or approved unpaid training courses.
