An 18-year-old was taken to hospital after the incident in Ace Parade on Saturday (December 6) around 9.30pm.
He was taken to hospital but did not suffer any life-changing or life-threatening injuries.
The Metropolitan Police has called this a “liquid” although some eyewitnesses said this could have been acid – but the type of substance used has not been confirmed.
Caribbean Classic, a restaurant on Ace Parade offering authentic flavours of the Caribbean to Chessington, has issued a statement following the incident.
It confirmed that the attack itself did not happen inside the venue, but the young boys ran into the eatery to ask for help.
A statement read: “We believe they came in because they felt safe, and we acted immediately.
“Myself, our front of house team, kitchen staff, and even our DJ rushed to wash the corrosive substance off the victims until emergency services arrived.”
According to the restaurant, the boy had the substance in his eyes.
The statement continued: “DC Lopez told us that our quick actions helped these boys and called us ‘heroes’ but we simply did what anyone should do in that moment.”
A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 21:44hrs on Saturday, 6 December to Ace Parade, Chessington to reports that a man sustained injuries to his face after a liquid was thrown.
“The victim, aged 18, was taken to hospital with non-life-changing or life-threatening injuries and has since been discharged.
“Enquiries remain ongoing and no arrests have been made at this stage.”
