East London Coroner’s Court heard on Wednesday, August 27, that she was pronounced dead at 6.21am with a forensic post-mortem giving her cause of death as head injury.
Zahwa Mukhtar (Image: Met Police) One man, aged 35, has been arrested on suspicion of her murder and three more have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Police said they believe this was an isolated incident.
Coroner’s officer Jean Smyth said Zahwa was born and lived in Hackney.
Her family said: “Zahwa was a kind and loving person with high aspirations in life and her presence brought warmth to those around her.
“She was dearly loved by her family and friends.
“Zahwa’s tragic loss has left us heartbroken, and she will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
“Her memory will live on in our hearts forever.”
Coroner Nadia Persaud said: “I’m satisfied on the fact that the death occurred in circumstances which require an inquest being opened.”
A provisional date for the full inquest was set for March 2026 but Ms Persaud said it is likely to be moved if there are criminal court proceedings.
The Met Police investigation into Zahwa’s death continues.
Det Supt Brian Hobbs said: “Although we have now made arrests, local residents will continue to see an increased number of officers in and around the area while our investigative work is carried out.
“I would ask anyone who was in the area of Romford, who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, to speak to us.”
