Officers were called to reports of a crash in Cator Road just before 10pm yesterday (April 27).
London Ambulance Service crews also attended, however, the 27-year-old driver died at the scene.
His next of kin have been informed of his death. The road was closed but has since reopened.
A Met Police spokesperson said: “On Sunday, April 27, 9.53pm, police were called to Cator Road, Sydenham, to reports of a road traffic collision between a driver and a tree.
“Officers attended the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service, the London Fire Brigade and London’s Air Ambulance.
“Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the driver, a 27-year-old man, died at the scene. His next of kin are aware.
“Cator Road has now been re-opened.”
