Run by Castle Cinema, Castle Sidcup will be taking over the former Storyteller building to bring film back to the heart of the town.
The cinema will also feature a new bar that will be welcoming residents all year round.
Expressing his excitement for the opening, Councillor Cafer Munur, Bexley cabinet member for place shaping, said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome Castle Cinema to Sidcup.
“Castle Sidcup will be a fantastic local amenity for residents and an important part of the town’s cultural and economic life.
“We encourage everyone to support the cinema and help it flourish.”
Castle Sidcup, run by the team behind Hackney’s community-driven Castle Cinema, is the start of a new chapter for Sidcup’s film scene.
Holly Hayman, executive director of Castle Cinema, said: “We’re really excited to welcome Bexley residents to Castle Sidcup.
“December will be a soft-launch month while we settle in, find our feet and make everything feel just right.”
The cinema will be open to the public until 9pm every day until the end of the year excluding closure days on December 18 and December 25.
Castle Sidcup will also be closed on New Year’s Day but will welcome customers with extended hours of 9.30am to 11pm from January 2.
Memberships at the former cinema building will still be honoured and members are encouraged to arrange this with the Castle Sidcup team on site.
Film times and tickets can now be booked on the website.
