Property site Area 360 named Carshalton as one of the safest places to live in the capital by giving various places all over the city a deprivation level.
Deprivation levels show how well or poorly an area is doing in terms of money, jobs, education, health, housing, and access to services.
A lower deprivation level means the area has better living conditions, more community resources, and is generally safer.
Carshalton, as well as Wallington, was given an average deprivation level of 4.5.
The crime rate stands at 60.8 crimes per 1,000 population, but Carshalton has faced a number of horrifying incidents in the last few weeks.
In January 2025, a man was arrested after a six-hour standoff with police at Bramblewood Close.
On the exact same day, a teenager was stabbed on Green Wrythe Lane and was left fighting for his life. Thankfully, his condition has now been reassessed as non-life threatening.
Last Thursday (March 6), it was revealed that two teenagers had been arrested in connection with the stabbing.
Both suspects have been released on bail pending further inquiries as the investigation continues.
The next day saw a man rushed to hospital after getting hit by a bus in Carshalton. His current condition is not known.
Despite these incidents, Carshalton’s crime rate is still relatively low compared to other areas in London.
Carshalton benefits from well-lit streets and a tight-knit community that takes pride in keeping the area safe and welcoming.
Carshalton is also known for its abundance of green spaces, including the scenic Carshalton Ponds, the expansive Oaks Park, and Grove Park, which one reviewer described as “gorgeous” on TripAdvisor.
The number of parks allow residents and visitors a getaway for peace and relaxation.
Transport links are another draw, with regular train services to central London in just under 30 minutes, as well as convenient bus connections to Sutton, Croydon, and Wimbledon.
Carshalton’s independent shops, cosy cafes, and popular pubs, such as The Hope – an award-winning local favourite – add to its charm, making it a sought-after place to live.
Community events like the annual Carshalton Environmental Fair and Frost Fair in December help foster a strong neighbourhood spirit, further contributing to its reputation as a safe and friendly place.
In addition to being named one of the safest areas to live, Carshalton has frequently been recognised for its high quality of life, strong schools, and welcoming atmosphere.
Putney in Wandsworth was ranked before Carshalton.
Earlier this year, Sutton was also named one of the best places to retire and live.
