It was opened as part of a £1.4 million investment by Tower Hamlets Council and Canary Wharf Group aimed at “improving and increasing the learning offer” to residents.
The new children’s library is separate from the main Idea Store but is next to it.
It has several “new features” including additional space, new heating, cooling, air ventilation, lighting and flooring.
It was opened with a story time session attended by children, parents, carers, Maium Talukdar, deputy mayor and cabinet member for education, youth and lifelong learning, and Saied Ahmed, cabinet member for resources.
Mr Talukdar said: “We’re pleased to work in partnership with Canary Wharf Group to give Idea Store Canary Wharf a makeover and expand services to better serve our community.
“The re-furbished Idea Store will boost learning opportunities in a brighter, more sustainable space.
“It was great to join young visitors in the brand-new children’s library which now has its own entrance and is more spacious and comfortable for everyone.”
As part of this year’s Summer of Fun programme, Tower Hamlets Council hosted hundreds of free activities for children and young people across the borough, including a number of Idea Store events and activities.
The Idea Store’s story time sessions for children under the age of five have been popular.
In the past year alone, more than 10,158 visitors attended these sessions at Canary Wharf’s Idea Store.
In August, before the children’s library re-opened, 188 people attended three Story Time Up On The Roof sessions at Cross Rail Roof Garden Canary Wharf.
