Hosted by the Mayor of Camden Cllr Samata Khatoon and Deputy Mayor Cllr Eddie Hanson, young attendees from the Jack Petchey Foundation toured the Town Hall and took part in a mock council session.
Taking over the council chamber, they discussed ‘Whether or not parents should be allowed to check their children’s phones’ – sparking a lively debate touching on issues of safety, privacy and trust.
Thee event provided an engaging and educational experience aimed at fostering civic awareness and youth participation in the community.
Teenagers taking part came from the foundation’s Achiever Network personal development programme, who were joined by others from Parliament Hill School and from the Harmsworth Playground at Coram’s Fields in Bloomsbury.
Emily Glazebrook, senior grant officer for the Jack Petchey Foundation, said: “The Mayor’s Parlour in Camden was a brilliant gathering of young people from both Camden and beyond.
“The tour of the Town Hall and debate in the Council chamber captivated attendees, sparking thought-provoking questions and stimulating meaningful discussions. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor for their gracious hosting and unwavering support in making this event possible.”
