Camden Council is now enforcing measures to address the issue, which it says poses risks to pedestrians, especially those with mobility needs.
Councillor Adam Harrison, cabinet member for planning and a sustainable Camden, said: “It is vital that our streets remain safe and accessible for people walking around our borough, especially for those with mobility issues, blind and partially sighted individuals, wheelchair users and parents with prams.
“We are collecting resident and business feedback about hotspot areas for bike dumping and are using our enforcement powers to remove and store hire e-bikes that are causing obstructions and that continue to be an issue.
“We are then storing them for collection by the parent company.”
The council is issuing fixed penalty notices of £100 per bike for those left in resident, business, disabled, and doctor parking bays.
This enforcement supports other measures already in place, including the rollout of designated dockless bike hire bays.
Councillor Harrison said the public can also help by reporting problem bikes.
He said: “Residents and businesses can also report issues to us by using the Love Clean Street app.”
