A number 1 bus, operated by Transport for London, crashed next to the Garden Gate pub in South End Road, in South End Green at around 1 pm on Wednesday (January 1).
A member of staff at the pub, who asked not to be named, said they heard a “really loud bang” but that “everyone was fine”.
They added: “All the patio was taken out including all the furniture and planters and there was damage to the side of the pub.

“With the weather being as horrific as it was, that was probably a bit of a saving grace as there was no-one sitting outside on that front patio.”
The 19th century pub, run by Mitchells & Butlers, occupies a prime spot just a stone’s throw from Hampstead Heath.
It is not yet known what caused the bus to crash.
