Brockley’s Rock is possibly the most decorated fish and chip shop in south east London – if not in the capital as a whole – having scooped multiple awards over the years, including wins at the National Fish and Chip Awards and Good Food Awards.
As a big fan of the classic chippy tea, I knew I had to see what all the hype about.

When you first enter Brockley’s Rock, its immediately clear that this is a takeaway at the top of its game: its multiple awards are hung proudly on the walls and friendly staff members welcome you in.
The menu also caters for all tastes and dietary requirements, with gluten-free fish and chips and vegan options available – which I have never seen before at a chippy.
I opted for a honey glazed salmon and sweet potato fishcake – one of its takeaway specials – a regular portion of chips, and the homemade tartare sauce.

It was just past lunch time and, although there were a few other people in front of me, my food was ready in under five minutes.
I even had my name taken so they could call me when my order was ready – a nice touch, even though it was relatively quiet.

The sun was shining down on Brockley, and so I took my lunch to the nearby Hilly Fields to eat my lunch with stunning views across London.
The smell of the chips was mouth-watering as I walked to my lunch spot – and the food was well worth the sweaty hike up the hill.
The fishcake was gorgeous and crispy, while the chips tasted fresh and were cooked to perfection: not greasy and with the right amount of salt and vinegar.

I quite literally devoured the homemade tartare sauce, which topped off an already delicious meal.
If you are in the area, I would highly recommend trying Brockley’s Rock – you will struggle to find a chippy that beats it.
