Brixton Underground station was closed and the Victoria line suspended while Electric Avenue, Brixton Road and Atlantic Road were closed in full or part.

There were no reports of injuries but reported being evacuated from their buildings.

After flames spread into the roof above the storage area, they were finally brought under control around 1.10pm.

(Image: Contributor) A joint investigation by the London Fire Brigade and Metropolitan Police into the cause of the fire has been announced.

Meanwhile, fire crews remain on the scene to damp down hotspots and road and rail closures remain in place.

The Brigade received 25 calls about the highly visible fire with crews from Brixton, Peckham, Lambeth, West Norwood and surrounding fire stations being sent to the scene.

A 32-metre turntable ladder used as an observation tower to provide a better view of the fire and as a water tower to help extinguish the flames from height.
