Brentwood School launched the co-curricular darts programme this term, which it says makes it the first UK school to have a weekly timetabled scheme focusing on the sport.
The programme involves 18 Sixth Form students participating in darts sessions every Tuesday morning.
It is led by geography teacher Dave Wright and supported by Barry Hearn OBE, Matchroom founder, PDC president, and former Brentwood parent.
Mr Wright worked with Sixth Form students Jenson and Jack to create the programme, which focuses on building precision, leadership, and teamwork.
Jenson said: “We’re doing things other schools could only dream of being able to do.
“The Brentwood Bullseyes are laying down the foundations for global darts in schools.”
The first half-term of the programme concluded with the Brentwood School Darts Championship.
Students competed in group stages, and the best players went on to play the finals in Memorial Hall, which was transformed.
The finals had walk-on songs, stage lighting, and an enthusiastic crowd.
Jenson hosted the event, which saw Luca crowned the first Brentwood School Darts Champion.
Barry Hearn presented him with the trophy and described the event as “great fun” and a “pleasure to be involved with”.
The students also took part in a Q&A and masterclass with Mr Hearn before the final.
Following this, they had a two-hour session at The Oche London, a modern darts venue that mixes fun and team-building games.
The event was a way to celebrate the success of the school’s new darts programme.
Brentwood School said that the co-curricular darts programme reflects its innovative approach to education, providing students with opportunities that extend beyond the classroom.
Mr Wright said: “I truly believe that this could be the start of something special.
“It has already created such a positive culture and hype in the school – the ‘Luke Littler effect’ has transformed the game and inspired a generation.”
