Private renters can find out everything they need to know about the end of ‘no-fault’ evictions, their rights in the Renters’ Rights Bill and cutting energy bills at a free event.
The Private Renters Fair in Brent, aimed at helping residents understand their rights and recent changes in rental legislation, will take place at the Civic Centre on Wednesday, October 8 from 3pm to 7pm.
Councillor Fleur Donnelly-Jackson, cabinet member for housing, said: “Almost half of all homes in Brent are privately rented.
“It is important that tenants know their rights, understand what to expect from landlords and learn how the new laws will protect them.
“This fair provides a great opportunity for tenants to learn about the new legislation and access all the support they need under one roof, as well as learn how to report issues when things go wrong.”
A live panel session will explain what the Renters’ Rights Bill means for tenants, including the end of ‘no-fault’ evictions and stronger rights for renters.
Attendees will have access to free one-to-one advice from legal experts, advocacy groups, debt advisers and the London Fire Brigade.
A wide range of organisations will be on hand to assist with practical issues, from cutting energy bills and tackling damp and mould, to accessing grants, finding good-quality work and reporting anti-social behaviour.
