The Metropolitan Police received reports of gun shots in Braintree Road at 6.21pm on September 7.
After officers arrived to the scene, a suspicious vehicle was seen nearby a short while later.
The car was followed by police to Abercorn Gardens, Romford, where items including two zombie knives were discarded.
The vehicle continued on to Barley Lane, Ilford, where it came to a stop for a second time.
Three males aged 17 and 19 were arrested on suspicion of possession of offensive weapons.
That evening a 17-year-old boy self-presented to hospital with gun shot wounds.
On September 8, a 17-year-old boy was charged with possession of an offensive weapon.
He cannot be named for legal reasons relating to his age, but the Metropolitan Police has revealed he is from Dagenham.

After appearing at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on September 9, the defendant was released on bail.
He is next due to appear at Stratford Youth Court on November 11.
The other two suspects, aged 17 and 19, have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
