Officers from the Metropolitan Police were alerted to an incident at a hotel in Tooley Street SE1 at around 12.40am this morning (January 25).
Reports had been received of a man behaving erratically and threatening self-harm before making off.
Criminal damage was found in one of the hotel rooms.
Just 15 minutes later, police received another report of a disturbance in the area of Borough Market in Borough High Street linked to the same man.
The man in his 30s was detained by security staff who rang the emergency services after he tried to enter a club.
A short while after the arrival of emergency responders, his condition deteriorated and he was taken to hospital.

His condition has been described as life-threatening at this stage and his family have been informed.
Borough High Street was closed by police in the wake of the incident but has since reopened.
