Blue singer Antony Costa has stepped into a starring role in Aladdin at Dartford’s Orchard West after Linda Robson was forced to withdraw due to illness.
Mr Costa is now playing the part of Councillor Costa in the Christmas production.
He said: “They say in Pantoland, anything can happen and all of a sudden I’m Councillor of Dartfordia!
“I love panto so much and am so happy to help out and to join the amazing cast at Orchard West.
“Panto is the best way to celebrate the festive season and I’m looking forward to seeing lots of families join in the fun.”
The show opened this past weekend and features an all-star cast including comedian Rikki Jay, Jason Marc-Williams, Britain’s Got Talent magician Mandy Muden, and panto veteran Richard Foster-King.
West End performers Cleve September and Anton Stephans also appear alongside musical theatre star Ruby Mann and a full ensemble.
Tal Rosen, Theatre Director at Orchard West, said: “You can always expect the unexpected with live theatre so we are delighted Antony has been able to come in at the eleventh hour to make sure we put on a fantastic show which we know our audiences will love.
“He’s a true panto hero.
“We know everyone will join us in wishing Linda well and thank them for their understanding.
“We look forward to spreading plenty of panto magic this Christmas and wish all our audiences a joyful and laughter-filled festive season.”
While Mr Costa prepares for the role, West End actress and understudy Hollie Cassar will cover the part on select dates.
She will appear in the show on December 18, 20, 23, and 31.
The production promises a full dose of traditional panto magic with villainy, comedy, a larger-than-life dame, sing-along musical numbers, and slapstick fun for the whole family.
