Plans from Radioactive Clothing Ltd, trading as Slammin Events, propose a one-day weekend event on Blackheath Common to take place annually between the last week of October and the second week of November.
The application covers live and recorded music, dance performances, and the sale of alcohol on site from 4pm to 11pm on Saturdays.
If approved, the event would mark the return of one of south east London’s biggest free fireworks displays, which last took place in 2018.
In 2019, Lewisham Council pulled the plug on the fireworks due to a lack of funding.
Although a community fundraiser helped revive hopes for 2020, the event was later cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Since then, the display has been called off every year, most recently due to ongoing financial pressures linked to the cost of living crisis.
Lewisham Council says its annual budget has been cut by £157 million over the last 14 years.
In a statement on its website, the council previously said: “We have to prioritise funding and need to focus our limited financial resources on maintaining essential local services and supporting our most vulnerable residents.
“During a cost of living crisis, we cannot justify spending money on community fireworks for just one night over vital services needed throughout the year.”
This latest proposal comes from Slammin Events, a London-based company that specialises in delivering large scale festivals and events across the UK.
If the licence is granted, they would take charge of the fireworks.
Residents who want to comment on the plans must send their written views to Lewisham Council before July 30.
