Officers from the Metropolitan Police were alerted to a large group of youths on Blackheath Common at around 3.30pm today (April 8).
A road closure was put in place between Shooters Hill Road and Montpelier Road along Prince Charles Road.
Police remain at the scene dispersing youths but believe the majority of those involved have already been cleared earlier in the afternoon.
A spokesperson for the Met has confirmed that there have been several arrests for separate offences, but that the exact arrest figure is unknown at this stage.
Arrests on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public space are among those that were made, and the situation continues to be monitored.
A section 60 order has been authorised for the area in the wake of the incident, allowing officers to conduct stop and searches on individuals and vehicles without reasonable suspicion in a defined area and time.
This occurs when there is a possibility of violence or weapons being involved.
Enquiries are ongoing.
