The London Fire Brigade (LFB) has issued a warning for members of the public to “avoid the area” near New Bridge Street, Blackfriars, after a gas leak earlier today (December 9).
Several buildings on the road have been evacuated “as a precaution”, while New Bridge Street itself remains shut between Queen Victoria Street and the Ludgate Circus junction, according to AA.
A 100m cordon is in place, with photos from the scene showing City of London officers and London Ambulance Service vehicles behind the taped off area.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Dowgate, Soho, Kentish Town and Clapham fire stations were first called to New Bridge Street just before 11am this morning.
LFB has warned people to expect “disruption”, while two bus routes – 40 and 63 – remain on diversion, according to Transport for London (TfL).
A spokesperson for LFB said: “A 100m cordon is in place and several buildings have been evacuated as a precaution while we work with partners to make the scene safe.
“There are road closures in place, which are causing some disruption, and the public are encouraged to avoid the area where possible.”
