The fire broke out at a semi-detached house in Bishops Avenue at around 6pm yesterday (July 22).
Officers, London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade attended, however, the man was pronounced dead shortly after.
Another man, in his 50s, was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
He was taken to hospital for treatment where he his condition is unknown at this stage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “Around 6pm on Tuesday, 22 July, we attended a fire at a residential address in Bishops Avenue, Bromley.
“Officers attended alongside the London Fire Brigade and the London Ambulance Service.
“A man, aged in his 80s, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His next-of-kin are being supported by specially-trained officers.
“Another man, aged in his 50s, was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. He was taken to hospital, where he remains.
“We await an update on his condition.
“Investigators are making enquiries to determine the cause of the fire.”
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters were called to a house fire on Bishops Avenue in Bromley.
“Half of the ground floor of a semi-detached house was damaged by fire. One man was treated on scene by London Ambulance Service crews after suffering from smoke inhalation.
“Sadly, a further man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The Brigade was called at 5.46pm and the fire was under control by 6.18pm.
“Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Beckenham, Sidcup and Old Kent Road Fire Stations attended the incident.”
