Temporary traffic orders have been issued by Bexley Council to allow celebrations to take place on May 5.
VE Day is a day of remembrance that commemorates Germany’s surrender to the Allies, marking the end of World War II and many people across the country celebrate with parties with their neighbours on their road.
The closures will affect various locations across Bexley, Welling, Sidcup, Crayford, Bexleyheath, and Eltham.
The orders, made under Section 16(A) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, will introduce road closures, parking restrictions, and prohibitions on vehicle movement.
The restrictions will be in place for one day only on each affected road.
The public notice, issued by Andrew Bashford, Head of Highways, Traffic and Infrastructure, states that the measures are intended to enable street parties to celebrate VE Day.
No alternative routes will be provided while the street parties are in progress.
The council has stated that the restrictions will only apply during the times indicated by traffic signs on the day.
Emergency service vehicles, as well as vehicles being used in connection with the works, will be exempt from the restrictions.
The notice also clarifies that the measures do not apply to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a traffic warden.
The notice was published on April 23.
Anyone with questions about the notice can contact Engineering Services at engineeringservices@bexley.gov.uk or on 020 303 7777.
