My name is Holly Brencher, and together with my partner Harley Stacey Green, we have founded Because of Billy—a bereavement support group specifically for parents and siblings who have lost someone to suicide or addiction.
The group meets every other Sunday at The Salvation Army in Welling, and our first session will be held on March 16, 2025, at 3:30 PM.
Having both lost loved ones too soon, we’re standing together to create a space for healing, support, and remembrance (Image: Holly Brencher) Because of Billy is named in memory of my brother, Billy Payne, who tragically took his own life in November 2024 after battling drug addiction and mental health struggles.
Billy’s death deeply affected our family, and in response to our grief, Harley and I felt a strong need to create a safe, understanding space for others facing the same heartbreak.
We know how isolating this kind of loss can be, and we don’t want anyone else to feel they have to go through it alone.

This group is a place to share stories, find solace, and gain strength from others who truly understand what it means to grieve a loved one lost to suicide or substance abuse.
Each session will offer a safe, supportive environment for members to express their feelings, reflect, and support each other as we navigate the complexities of grief.
We will also have activities, guest speakers, and resources to help guide us through this difficult journey.
Our goal is to honour the memory of those we have lost, while also creating a supportive community for parents and siblings who need it most.
The group is available on a first-come, first-served basis, but we hope to expand in the future to accommodate more people.
If you are a parent or sibling who has lost someone to suicide or drug abuse, we invite you to join us.
This is a confidential and understanding space where you can share your emotions, receive guidance, and take part in healing activities.

We are incredibly grateful to The Salvation Army in Welling for allowing us to use their space to host Because of Billy.
Their support means so much, as they are an organisation dedicated to helping the community, running a food pantry for those in need and providing essential support for the homeless.

Their kindness and commitment to helping others align perfectly with our mission, and we truly appreciate their generosity in giving us a space to bring people together in healing.
If you would like to join Because of Billy or want more information, please feel free to message us on our Facebook page @because.of.billy via Facebook Messenger.
I truly believe that grief doesn’t have to be faced alone, and together, we can find light even in the darkest moments.
