The project, delivered in partnership with EV charging operator char.gy, will bring the total number of charge points in Barnet to 2,500.
Councillor Alan Schneiderman, cabinet member for environment and climate change, said: “Lots more electric vehicle charge points is great news for Barnet residents.
“It’s another step in the right direction as we move towards becoming a Net Zero borough by 2042.”
The first 500 charge points are already being installed and will be operational within three months.
The remaining 500 will be rolled out over the following three years.
The new charge points will be integrated into existing lampposts to minimise disruption and avoid pavement clutter.
John Lewis, CEO of char.gy, said: “Barnet is showing real leadership with this rollout – making it easier for people to make the switch to electric by ensuring charging is available right outside their homes.”
The council secured nearly £800,000 in grant funding from the Office for Zero Emissions Vehicles’ On Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS), covering 60 per cent of the project cost.
The remaining costs will be covered by char.gy.
