Schools have been ranked based on factors such as percentage of pupils staying in education or entering employment and progress made between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 4 compared to national averages.
We have not included special schools in this list.
Barking and Dagenham’s top performing secondary school was Goresbrook School. Goresbrook was rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in all six inspection categories back in November last year.
The school, in Cook Road, Dagenham scored 0.87, which is “well above average” on the the Progress 8 indicator.
According to the report, the Progress 8 score shows how much progress pupils at a school made between the end of Key Stage 2 and the end of Key Stage 4, compared to pupils across England who got similar results at the end of Key Stage 2.
Out of the 13 government-funded secondary schools with a Progress 8 score, eight received scores about the national average.
Goresbrook had the highest percentage of pupils who received a grade 5 or above in English and Maths GCSEs with 60.4 per cent.
The second highest ranked secondary school in the borough is Riverside School, which received a “well above average” 0.78 Progress 8 score.
The school also registered the highest Attainment 8 score with 54.4.
This is based on how well pupils perform in up to eight qualifications including English and maths, three English Baccalaureate qualifications and three additional approved qualifications.
A total of 97 per cent of students who left Riverside in 2022 either stayed in education or entered employment after key stage 4 – the second highest percentage after All Saints Catholic School and Technology College who placed third in the overall rankings.
All Saints registered 98 per cent of 2022 leavers staying in education or entering employment.
They also received a “well above average” 0.72 Progress 8 score.
At the other end of the spectrum, Eastbrook School in Dagenham was ranked lowest out of the borough’s government-funded secondary schools. The school received a “well below average” score of -0.62 in Progress 8.
The report claimed that “pupils here achieve over half a grade lower in each qualification on average, compared to similar pupils across the country”.
The school also registered the lowest Attainment 8 score with 35.2.
Of Eastbrook students, 91pc stayed in education or entered employment – the lowest of all schools with available data.
