Police were called soon after 3pm today (August 12) to reports of a person beside the railway line at Wandsworth Common station.
Officers found the man close to Balham and are at the scene “working to bring the incident to a safe conclusion”.
National Rail reported “major disruption” to Southern, Gatwick Express and Thameslink services.
Trains are being cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes and are unable to run to London Victoria.
Disruption is expected until 7pm.
A BTP spokesperson said: “Officers were called at around 15.10pm today (12 August) to reports of a person trackside at Wandsworth Common railway station.
“Officers located the man in a precarious position close to Balham, and remain on scene alongside other emergency services working to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.”
